Class Act Players

Class Act Players became a reality on February 29th, 2008. Young, aspiring theatre artists from all over Madison and Buncombe Counties auditioned, and twelve talented and dedicated performers were chosen.

These exceptional students have come together as a company of performers that will tour throughout western North Carolina, bringing live theatre to retirement communities, community centers, schools, and other venues where those who might not get to the theatre, have the theatre brought to them.

Another goal of the company is to expand the horizons of both the audience and the performers, by exploring artistic expressions from original works to Shakespeare.

Class Act Players are ages 12-18. Auditions will be held again in Spring. If you'd like to receive email when the audition dates are announced, click the blue button on the right and sign up for our email announcements and newsletter and/or check the Class Act Players website. Actors will be heard by several area directors along with CAP's managing director.

EXPECTATIONS AT AUDITIONS AND CALLBACKS

1. COME PREPARED It is very obvious when you haven’t prepared for
an audition. If you won’t prepare for an audition, how can we know you
will you practice your dialog at home during rehearsals?

2. BE EXPRESSIVE

3. PROJECT We need to hear your audition!

4. STRATEGIZE IN YOUR AUDITION Your goal in an audition is to be
remembered! Wear clothing that makes you look your best and would help
the audition committee see you in the role that you want. Avoid trendy,
overdone audition materials. Choose a monolouge that is appropriate to
your age, personality, etc, and allows for some expressive diversity.

5. WHAT CAN NEGATIVELY AFFECT YOUR AUDITION Lack of preparation, not
projecting your voice, an unexpressive audition, a negative attitude,
inappropriate clothing... in short, the obvious things! Since Class Act
Players is a unique acting company, we require more than the "usual" kid
level commitment from our members. Please make sure you have read
through our materials and are certain this level of commitment is
appropriate for you before choosing to audition. Read more about our
participation requirements here. Also, feel free to ask any
existing CAP members attending the auditions for their advice and
feedback on the Class Act Players.

6. POTENTIAL At the audition, enter with confidence and smile. (We
know you’re nervous, because we’ve auditioned too!) Introduce yourself
and the name of your monologue. Actors should prepare 90 seconds of
material (one monologue or two contrasting monologues *OR* a 60 second
monologue and 30 seconds of a song sung a capella) and come to the
audition with your completed questionnaire. Do your best as you
perform…we are looking for potential, not perfection. We know you are
human! We will likely ask you to cold read some materials. We will
provide scripts for this when you come in. We suggest you read through
these as you wait to audition.

7. CALLBACKS We will not likely do any callbacks for CAP. We will do
callbacks only if we must to narrow down our selections due to available
space in our company.

8. PERFORMANCE RESUME & HEADSHOT If you have one, please bring a
performance resume to auditions listing your acting experience in
school, church, community or professional theatre productions. Also,
list any training (acting, dance, voice, piano lessons) and any unusual
skills (baton twirling, unicycle riding) that you have. Include an 8×10
headshot (torso and up) for the audition committee. This picture can be
a school photo or one taken by your parents.

9. QUESTIONNAIRE We will ask you to fill out a questionnaire written
by our members so we can learn more about you and what personality you
will bring to CAP. Please fill this out in full to the best of your
ability. This is a required part of the audition process. Some questions
are designed to make you think, others to make you laugh. We value a
sense of humor!

Thank you so much! We look forward to seeing you audition. Break a leg!
